Mr McLaren was appointed Consultant Breast and Endocrine Surgeon at Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust in 2004.
He trained on the Oxford Surgical Rotation and spent a year doing an Endocrine Fellowship.
His interests are in breast and endocrine surgery undertaking breast cancer surgery with high rates of immediate reconstruction and sentinel node biopsy.
Daycase thyroid surgery was introduced by Mr McLaren in 2005. He was the first surgeon in the UK to develop this into routine clinical practice. The results have been excellent as his changes in surgical technique mean most patients need no painkillers post-operatively.
He lectures on daycase endocrine surgery at the European Surgical Institute in Hamburg.
